Welcome to the Kagami-ita Gallery.
Here, we showcase the beauty and allure of the Kagami-ita (‘mirror board’), which slightly varies from one Noh Theater to another, in an image gallery format.
The motif of the Kagami-ita is said to be the ‘Kasuga Taisha’s Shadowed Pine’ in Nara. It is believed that the pine, where deities descend, is on the audience side and is reflected like in a mirror on the Kagami-ita. While this theory is considered a later creation, the evergreen pine fitting seamlessly into any season and various plays has naturally become established.
